Manchester City Council has, for the third year running, been voted the top local authority in the list of Britain’s top 100 employers of lesbian and gay people. The Council has been ranked joint third – the highest ranking local authority - in the 2007 Annual Corporate Equality Index, compiled by Stonewall, the lesbian and gay lobbying organisation.

In addition, Manchester City Council’s LGBT Employee Group has been named as Stonewall’s Employee Network Group of the year.

The council’s LGBT employee group plays an essential role in championing LGBT equality within Manchester City Council, and developing the organisation’s equality and diversity agenda.

The group is regularly consulted on employment rights, benefits and development, as a key equality and diversity stakeholder.
