Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month takes place every year in February. It celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
LGBT History Month has been welcomed by the government. However, it is not organised by them. The idea came from School’s Out! - the campaigning organisation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people involved in education. They took their inspiration partly from the United States, where LGBT History Month has been celebrated since 1994.
LGBT History Month is something in which everyone can take part. To help celebrate the month successfully, LGBT History Month’s official website has a wide range of tools, advice and resources for you to use in the classroom. www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk
Also, if your school is doing something for LGBT history month, whether it be an assembly on important and empowering gay figures in history, or a dramatisation of a historic gay event, Manchester City Council would like to hear from you, to help promote your LGBT History Month event.
If your school is doing something for LGBT History Month please send details via e-mail to:t.waller@manchester.gov.uk.
