Ending Homophobia Through Education

News

Commission for Equalities and Human Rights backs EACH's new initiative.

On November 27, Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, joined the anti-homophobia charity Educational Action Challenging Homophobia (EACH), to help launch their new online reporting service for young people targeted by homophobic bullying or harassment.

The Online Reporting Service available at www.eachaction.org.uk, builds on EACH’s freephone UK-wide telephone support service, which has run successfully since 2003. The charity is introducing this new, dedicated online reporting service to provide better access to support for young people.

Guests attending the launch at the Houses of Parliament included education professionals who confront this problem daily, businesses keen to invest in communities and talent for the future, MPs from the three main political parties, and other charities working to tackle bullying and persecution.

Speaking at the event Trevor Phillips said:

'Across the entire equalities and human rights agenda, homophobic bullying has emerged as one of the strongest themes for the Commission.

'We know it's spreading across our schools and workplaces. Stonewall's Living Together survey reported that 17 million adults witnessed homophobic bullying at school, millions of people have witnessed homophobic bullying at work. Those figures make the new online reporting facility vital.'

EACH is the award-winning charity for young people and adults affected by homophobia. It is also a not-for-profit training agency for employers and organisations committed to realising an equal and safe working environment for all regardless of age, sex, ability, ethnicity, faith or sexuality.
